Ceona governor defeats four rivals to become second female Governor General
MAVOCKE--Ceona Gov. Christine Gabler (pronounced "Gabe-ler") has been chosen to be the next Governor General.
Gabler was chosen by her fellow Nationalist governors. While the ballots are secret, it is known that Gabler tied with Veroche Gov. Linda Van Auhn in the final round of voting. The two received five votes each.
Because there was a tie, the seven NAT lieutenant governors cast votes also, resulting in a 9-8 vote in Gabler's favor.
East Deschire Gov. Lynn DeMont, Trinton Gov. Mark De Auonne and Wellington Gov. Pierre Carten also competed for the top position, but all three lost in the first round of voting.
Immediately following the final vote, Van Auhn congratulated Gabler, calling her a "sure success."
"She's a close friend and I know she'll make a great Governor General," Van Auhn told the NPF.
Gabler herself did not speak to the press following the vote. Instead, she hurried off to an intelligence briefing at Collester.
While walking out of the closed-door voting session, Gabler did tell a reporter from the NPF she is "excited" and "determined to bring strong leadership" to the Governor General's position.
Collester Press Secretary Adam Kolbert told the media President Menuhaeo is pleased with Gabler's selection.
"The President considers Christine Gabler to be a close friend and a respected colleague. He looks forward to working with her toward positive change in this country," Kolbert said.
Outgoing Governor General, Donna Almone (C-POG), also congratulated Gabler on being chosen.
"I congratulate Christine Gabler on her selection as Governor General. I wish her the best of luck," Almone said in a statement.
Gabler is the first Nationalist to hold the Governor General position in ten years. She is the second woman, after Almone, to hold the nation's fifth-highest ranking position.
